J and JL had both already been married for a year before they held their banquet - which meant that I'd been treated to Instagram stories of their colourful and eclectic home for some months before. So when I saw her reference photos filled with anthuriums, amaranthus and gloriosa, I knew she was locked into this botanical vibe.

We spoke a little of the colours she was drawn to - a little moody, a little burnt orange, but still colourful. Restrained, possibly, or just cool ("cool girl garden vibe", she'd said, and ended the conversation there). So cool it was.

Their morning began at home where she modelled for her Finnish Design store lamp (an addiction I unfortunately share). We brought pops of colour to their church in an industrial building - I later learned they were the first couple to have a ceremony there - and then rushed the set to lunch at Min Jiang Dempsey.

We created sleek mounds asymmetrically on their serving station, stacking hedges both on the station itself and a larger one on the floor. Since calla lilies had featured in JL's solemnisation bouquet, we included them again in the bridal bouquet, just in a slightly different variety I'd managed to pick up at the flower markets that week.

Since their bridesmaids were in different colours, each of them got their own colourblocked posy. A rush of a day, but no less exhilarating.
